About Ram POWERGRIP HD Clutches

Ram’s POWERGRIP HD performance clutches hold down up to 650 horsepower thanks to the use of sintered metallic on both friction surfaces of the clutch disc. Sintered metallic allows for a degree of slippage to ensure easy controllability on vehicle launches to avoid the violent and uncontrollable engagement characteristics of paddle type metallic discs. Due to the design of the friction surfaces, some chatter is likely on engagement with rear gearing less than 3.73 in street applications.

In addition to the unique friction surfaces, the clutch disc features an 8-spring hub equipped with RAM POLYCOIL damper encapsulated in polyurethane. This allows the springs to handle three times the shock load of a standard coil spring alone. POWERGRIP HD Clutches utilize the Ram Competition Pressure Plate which features 30% more clamp pressure over stock.

Ultimately, the POWERGRIP HD clutch offers you the perfect street/strip combination for your Mustang. This clutch is ideal for high horsepower cars that spend the majority of their time on the street with occasional track days, or for lower horsepower cars which see frequent track use.

Important Considerations:

When upgrading your Mustang’s clutch with Ram’s POWERGRIP HD Performance Clutch Set, we recommend adding a Ram aluminum flywheel to maximize the performance benefits of your new clutch assembly.

When re-using the existing flywheel, it’s always a good idea to have it re-surfaced to prolong the life of the clutch.
